Nelson Mandela

I was touched by what is going on in South Africa after the death of Nelson Mandela. People of different ethnicity are on the street singing and celebrating the life of Mandela rather than mourning his death. I think that is the way to pay homage to such a great man of peace and reconciliation.

Mandela's real contribution to humanity was that he chose peace over war and forgiveness over vengeance. Mandela looked his enemy in the eye and held him close. 'The South African transition from apartheid rule to democracy is today considered a “miracle” largely because of Mandela and despite the festering anger and resentment that drove many young people in those days to seek revenge against whites'. He chose peace over war, forgiveness over vengeance.

He was a real 'Christian' and real 'Gandhian'. I only hope that our political and religious leaders, and all of us, for that matter will choose to travel the the path of peace and reconciliation instead of war and hatred.

Let's celebrate his life as we celebrate Christmas which is a festival of hope and peace. Merry Christmas !!
